Twitter today announced Twitter Lite, a lighter version of its website that is meant for use on slower networks. The ‘lite’ version of the social media service looks and works similar to its native app for iOS and Android, except that it is able to achieve all of this right from within the browser of your device and on a slow connection.

Twitter says that Twitter Lite takes up less than 1MB of storage space on your device, and it has up to 30 percent faster launch times and quicker navigation times.

In addition, Twitter has also added a Data saver mode to Twitter Lite toggling which will help reduce your data usage by up to 70 percent. With this feature enabled, Twitter will automatically blur our all media in your timeline and only load them when tapped.

On Android devices with Chrome browser, Twitter Lite will also be able to send push notifications about your new follows, replies, or DMs. The feature will not be interrupted even if your device goes offline or loses access to an active internet connection.

Twitter has worked closely with Google to develop Twitter Lite using PWA (Progressive Web Apps). In India, to promote Twitter Lite, it has partnered with Vodafone to offer free live cricket updates for T20/IPL with a specially curated timeline.
