As rumors had indicated, Sony has gone ahead and introduced its newest flagship handset for the first half of 2014 — the Xperia Z2. The handset has the same design language and dimensions as the Z1 but packs in a bigger screen.
Sony promises that the 5.2-inch Full HD IPS display on the Z2 will offer the “widest color palette” of any mobile device, thanks to its Live Color LED along with improved contrast and viewing angles. The company has always been criticised for using sub-par displays on its smartphones so it is nice to see them fixing the issue at long-last.
Other specs of the handset have also been improved slightly to include a 2.3GHz Snapdragon 801 processor, 3GB of RAM and a beefier 3200mAh battery. The front and back glass, the IP58-certified waterproofing and dust-resistance and the dedicated camera key are all intact though.
While the Z2 still comes with a 20.7MP G-Lens camera, Sony has updated it to add support for 4k video recording, SteadyShot and Timeshift (Slow-mo) video recording feature. The Xperia Z2 will hit the retail stores sometime in March running Android 4.4 KItKat in black, white and purple colors.
