Sony today announced that it has started rolling out the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update for its Xperia Z5 series of handsets, along with the Xperia Z4 Tablet and the Xperia Z3+.

The Japanese company is known to take its own sweet time in rolling out Android updates, though this time around, to keep its advanced users happy, the company did do a ‘Concept for Android’ program in some regions of the world.

The rollout is being done in phases, so the update might not show up instantly on your Xperia. Additionally, some users report that they were able to get the update on their phone faster by using Sony’s PC companion software.

All the Marshmallow goodies are present in Sony’s take on Android, including Doze, App Standby, and Now on Tap. Sony has also refreshed its own stock launcher with the update, though its Stamina mode is missing, which is likely because of some restrictions imposed by Google. The company has also not implemented Marshmallow’s adoptable storage feature, just like LG and Samsung.

Sony’s Marshmallow firmware is based on Android 6.0, but it contains the latest February security patch from Google.

Have you received the Marshmallow update on your Xperia Z5 yet? If yes, are you liking the changes introduced by Sony?
