HTC’s One and Samsung’s Galaxy S4, two of the hottest Android smartphones, are both powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 600. If you’re a spec junkie, that means you probably want to know what comes after the 600, despite it being so fresh you can still smell the plastic.
The answer is the Snapdragon 800. What makes it different? The 800 can hit 2.3 GHz, and the four Krait 400 cores in the 800 are more advanced than the four Krait 300 cores in the 600. There’s also a new Adreno 330 GPU that can handle 4K video, and a whole bunch of other small things we’ll see in due time.
Which brings me to today’s news. According to Engadget, who attended a Qualcomm media event in China today, the Snapdragon 800 will enter the mass production by the end of next month. That means by the end of this year we should see phones that make the S4 and the One feel, I can’t believe I’m about to say this, “slow”.
