Samsung today announced that it will start selling new Galaxy Note 7 units in South Korea starting September 28th. The new Note 7 units will come with a battery from a different vendor and will be free from any manufacturing defect.

Samsung expects to start selling new Galaxy Note 7 units in Australia from early October. As for the United States and other major markets, a Samsung spokesman said the timeline will depend on the situation of the individual market.

Earlier today, Samsung issued a formal recall of the Galaxy Note 7 in the United States with the help of CPSC. In its statement, the company said that it will start providing users with replacement Note 7 units from September 21, which is a week earlier than when the company starts offering replacement Note 7 units in its home market – South Korea.

To ensure that faulty batteries inside Note 7 do not explode and cause harm, Samsung plans on rolling out an OTA update from early next week that will limit these handsets to being charged to 60 percent of their battery capacity. This software update will only be rolled out in South Korea for now.

Replacement Galaxy Note 7 units will come in a new retail box with an ‘S’ sticker to differentiate them from faulty units. Samsung is also mulling using a green battery icon on these devices, but there has been no confirmation from the company on this front.
