Samsung has announced a software upgrade to the Galaxy Note 7 that will repeatedly warn users that the device battery is faulty and should not be operated anymore since it poses a fire risk. The notification will also include a link to the replacement programme and a toll-free hotline for those needing more information.

Currently this software upgrade is for users in the United States, with Verizon-branded models already beginning to receive it. Other carrier-exclusive models will receive the update sometime tomorrow while unlocked devices will get the OTA towards the end of the week. (simpleeverydaymom.com) Some reports indicate that the update may roll out as late as Sunday.

The new update will also display a green battery icon on the upper top right corner of the Galaxy Note 7 screen on the condition that the device packs a stable cell. This will help users double check that the device they received is the new set with a new battery as opposed to just a refurbished device.

Samsung has already shipped 500,000 devices to the US for the Galaxy Note 7 recall programme. Sales of the Galaxy Note 7 are expected to resume on September 28th for the domestic market in South Korea, while that in USA resumes on the 21st of October.
