With the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus just over a month away from their official unveiling, new reports and rumors surrounding the devices come out almost every day. Today’s report gives clarity on the battery capacity of both handsets.

There has been quite a bit of confusion on the battery capacity that Samsung plans on using inside the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus. Early rumors pegged the Galaxy S8 to come with a 3250mAh battery, while the larger 6.2-inch Galaxy S8 Plus would feature a 3750mAh battery. However, today’s report from The Investor says that Samsung has finally gotten around to finalising the battery capacities of its upcoming flagship handsets. The Galaxy S8 will feature a 3000mAh battery, with the Galaxy S8 Plus making use of a 3500mAh battery. The Korean company will be sourcing the batteries from Samsung SDI and Murata Manufacturing of Japan.

While the Galaxy S8’s battery capacity remains the same as the Galaxy S7, the Galaxy S8 Plus’ battery capacity is actually 100mAh lower than the Galaxy S7 edge. Making matters worse is the fact that both phones will come with significantly bigger displays that are going to be more power hungry. Samsung is possibly hoping that the power efficiency of the Exynos 8895/Snapdragon 835 chip negates the extra strain that the display and iris scanner would put on the battery. Plus, it is always possible that Samsung has gotten around to optimising its software to eke out the very best in terms of battery life from its upcoming flagships.
