Samsung has started rolling out the Android 8.0 Oreo update for the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+. For now, the update is only live in Germany and only for those S8 owners who were a part of the beta program. S8 owners who did not take part in the beta program will start receiving the OTA update after 24 hours.

S8 Oreo beta testers are getting a 487MB update which brings Android 8.0 and Samsung Experience 9.0 along with it. Android Oreo will add a number of new features to the S8 including Picture-in-Picture, improved performance, small UI tweaks, Notification Dots, Autofill APIs, and more. The latest version of Samsung’s UI Experience also packs in a number of usability improvements including a faster iris scanner and a more accurate fingerprint scanner. Then there is also App Pair, an updated Lock Screen design, new clock styles for the Always-On display, and an enhanced DeX experience.

The update also carries the February security patch which was recently released by Google. S8 users who beta tested the Oreo update on their handset did report a noticeable improvement in performance and smoothness of their device which should be a welcomed by owners of the device

Samsung is rolling out the Oreo update for the Galaxy S8 and S8+ after beta testing it publicly for almost two months. Thus, the update is likely to be stable and should not contain any major showstopping bugs. For now, the Oreo update is only being rolled out in Germany, with a wider rollout for all unlocked S8 variants commencing from later this month. And if you own a carrier variant of the handset, you will have to wait anywhere between a month or two (or even longer) for the update to show up on your device.
