On June 18, T-Mobile announced their latest Uncarrier movement, in which part of that announcement centered around the launch of VoLTE markets. The new network had support from LG’s G Flex courtesy of an update to the device late in May, and now a pair of Samsung-branded handsets have joined the ranks.

The update was announced officially by T-Mobile on the specific support/update pages for the devices in question. Both the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and the Galaxy S5 are set to receive the over-the-air update beginning today, June 19. Specifically, the Galaxy S5’s update will begin rolling out after 5:00pm PST. The Galaxy Note 3, however, doesn’t have a specific time for when the update will begin rolling out to devices in the VoLTE markets.

Worth noting: If you are not in the VoLTE markets (which are listed below), you will be getting the same update, but you’ll have to download it directly through the KIES software. That update will be available beginning June 20.

VoLTE will make your phone calls from here on out clearer, or at least that’s the general idea.

As for the VoLTE markets:

  • Atlanta
  • Austin
  • Chicago
  • Dallas
  • Houston
  • Long Island
  • Los Angeles
  • Minneapolis
  • New England
  • New Jersey
  • New York
  • Philadelphia
  • San Francisco
  • Seattle
  • Washington D.C.
  • Are you in one of the VoLTE markets, have a Galaxy S5 or Galaxy Note 3, and looking forward to the clearer call quality?
