Android 9.0 Pie on OnePlus 6

Less than a month after releasing the first Open beta of OxygenOS based on Android 9.0 Pie for the OnePlus 6, the company has announced the official rollout of the update to the public.

The Android 9.0 Pie update brings a number of new features to the OnePlus 6 including App Actions, a redesigned Quick Settings panel, Material Design 2 for the Settings menu, and more. Additionally, OnePlus has also made some of its own tweaks to OxygenOS as well. This includes an enhanced Emergency Rescue mode which can be triggered by pressing the power button 3 or 5 times. The rescue mode will allow one to easily call their pre-defined emergency contact in case of an emergency.

OnePlus has also improved the Brightness Controller and reduced the sensitivity of the display in the low luminance range. This will allow users to better adjust the brightness of the OnePlus 6 display in low-light scenarios without too much of a discomfort. Below is the official change-log of the update:

  • Updated system to Android™ 9.0 Pie™
    • Brand new UI for Android Pie
    • New adaptive battery support
    • New Android Pie gesture navigation
    • Updated Android security patch to 2018.9
    • Other new features and system improvements
  • Do Not Disturb mode
    • New Do Not Disturb (DND) mode with adjustable settings
  • New Gaming mode 3.0
    • Added text notification mode
    • Added notification for 3rd party calls
  • Accent color
    • Supported accent color customization

OnePlus will be rolling out the update in stages so it is not going to show up immediately on your device. OnePlus has also clarified that users will not be able to download the Android Pie build on their device using a VPN as the rollout is being done on a random basis and not on a region basis. Nonetheless, knowing OnePlus, if the limited rollout goes fine, the company should roll out the final Android 9.0 Pie update to OnePlus 6 owners within the next couple of weeks.
