Technology has changed considerably since Google first released the original Nexus One. While the Nexus One, released in early 2010, had a single core Qualcomm processor, the recently released Nexus 5 packs in a quad-core processor with 2GB of RAM. 

With the Nexus 5 packing in near top-of-the-line specs, the folks over at PhoneBuff have done a speed comparison test of the all the five generations of Nexus handsets and just how fast the latest Nexus from Google is. As expected, the Nexus One and Nexus S clearly show their age with the single core processors struggling to play Temple Run 2 or even load The Verge properly.

All the Nexus handsets were running the latest version of Android, as supported by them on Google, which meant Gingerbread for Nexus One, Android 4.1 for Nexus S, Android 4.3 for Galaxy Nexus and Nexus 4. The Nexus 5 was the only handset running on Android 4.4 KitKat.

The difference in performance between the Nexus One and Nexus 5 is staggering and clearly shows how technology has evolved over the last five years. In certain tests, the Nexus One took more than 4x the time of Nexus 5 to complete certain tasks.
