Retuers, who doesn’t publish a rumor unless they know it’s going to happen, says Google will begin selling an updated Nexus 7 in July. Said tablet will be made by ASUS, just like the first one, but the NVIDIA Tegra chip will be swapped out for a Qualcomm Snapdragon, mainly due to power concerns.

Google allegedly has plans to sell eight million of these new tablets during the second half of 2013. That’s an incredibly low figure. To put it into some context, Apple sold 22.9 million iPads during the last three months of 2012.

Google wants to do a third of that in twice the time.

As for pricing, that hasn’t been determined yet. The Reuters piece goes on to say Google is thinking about either selling it for $199, like the first one, while also selling the original Nexus 7 for a discounted rate, or simply discontinuing the original Nexus 7 and selling this new model for $149.

I only have one request: Please, pretty please, give it a good screen. I can’t use a Nexus 7 for more than a few minutes at a time because the display is so horrible. I’d rather have the next Nexus 7 use an old and busted Qualcomm chip, but have a great panel, than have the top of the line Snapdragon 600, but with a display that can’t display more than 46 colors at once.
