A Motorola spokesperson has confirmed to Droid-Life that the Android 7.0 Nougat update for the Moto Z family and the Moto G4 will start rolling out in the beginning of Q4 this year. Motorola has always been among the first OEMs in the market to roll out the latest version of Android to its flagship devices within a month or so of the final release of the OS from Google.

With Google releasing Android 7.0 Nougat in August, a Q4 timeframe from Motorola sounds about right. It is likely that the Verizon variant of the Moto Z devices will get their Nougat update a few weeks after the unlocked version receives the update.

In its hurry to quickly roll out major Android updates to its devices in the past, Motorola has seeded buggy updates to them. This time around, the company seems to be taking its own sweet time to ensure that it does not repeat the same mistake again.

As for the Moto X Pure Edition and previous Moto G devices, Motorola says that they know “know upgrades are about getting it right and making sure the phone performance remains the best it can be” and that they will “share upgrade plans for other products and more specific timing later.” Hopefully, this does not mean that Motorola will not be upgrading the Moto X Pure to Nougat. After all the company has a very bad reputation of quickly dropping support for its older devices.
