Motorola today launched a faster variant of the Moto G in Mexico — just four months after the 3rd gen. Moto G went on sale. Dubbed Moto G Turbo Edition, the handset comes with a faster processor and quick charging support.

Design wise, the Moto G Turbo Edition looks exactly like its original sibling. It even houses the same 5-inch 720p display, 2GB RAM, 16GB storage space, a 13MP rear shooter, and a 5MP selfie shooter. Under the hood though, the Turbo Edition features an octa-core Snapdragon 615 processor, which is notably faster than the quad-core Snapdragon 410 chipset found inside the Moto G (2015).

The handset also supports Quick Charge 2.0 technology that should charge it from 0-100 percent in just over 1.25 hours.

All the extra power and features does lead to the Moto G Turbo Edition having a price tag that is slightly higher than its less powerful sibling. The device will go on sale in Mexico from November 13 for 4,699 pesos (~$280), which is roughly $35 higher than the Moto G (2015).

Motorola has not yet revealed if it plans to bring this new variant of the Moto G to other markets of the world, though it seems unlikely that it will do so. This is because in markets like India and the United States, the Moto G sits right below the Moto X Play, and the price difference between them is not big enough to warrant a new model altogether.

It can be argued that the Moto G Turbo Edition is what the original Moto G should have been from the get-go, especially after you consider the fact that the 2nd gen. Moto G made use of a slightly older variant of the same chipset that is found inside the Moto G (2015).
