Motorola’s Moto X marketing budget is $500M

According to The Wall Street Journal, Google is going to let Motorola blow as much $500 million on marketing the Moto X. What is the Moto X? It’s the first Motorola phone that’s heavily influenced by Google, who acquired the company back in May 2012. What do we know about the Moto X? It’ll be a mid-range device that you can “customize” by picking the colors of the front and back of the phone.

When are we going to see the Moto X? Between now and October according to the CEO of Motorola Mobility. He said the phone would be on store shelves in or around October, so that should give you a clue as to when an unveiling is expected. My gut says September.

One more key detail from the WSJ report: All four of America’s major operators will carry the Moto X and they’re not going to be allowed to screw it up with their software. This is unprecedented in the world of Android. Apple on the other hand, they haven’t let operators touch the iPhone since the first iPhones started shipping in 2007.

Should you wait for the Moto X? Let me repeat myself: It’s a mid-range device.
