LG today announced that it has started rolling out the Android 7.0 Nougat update for the G5 in South Korea. This makes LG not only the first OEM to start selling a Nougat running smartphone, but also the first company to update one of its existing devices on the market to the latest version of the OS.

It’s likely that the Nougat experience on the G5 will be similar to what we already get on the V20 albeit minus the second screen and advance manual camera capabilities. Other Nougat related features that should be a part of this update include multi-window functionality, improved battery life with Doze, a revamped Settings menu, redesigned notification shade, In apps search, and more.

“At LG, we know our customers want the best, most up-to-date mobile experience,” said Kim Hyung-jung, senior vice president and head of LG Mobile’s research and development. “Getting software updates to our users faster than the competition is our way of demonstrating that LG is committed to supporting our products and customers to ensure they have a positive ownership experience.”

LG also says that after Korea, it will be rolling out the Android 7.0 update for the G5 in America, Asia, and other markets “in the weeks to come.” This is the third consecutive year that LG has managed to beat other OEMs in being the first to roll out a major Android update to its flagship device.
