Earlier this year, rumors started floating around that Google might be killing its Nexus line-up of devices in favor of a new Android Silver program. The rumor was shot down by Google’s David Burake who confirmed at I/O that the program is far from dead, and the leaked specs and renders of an HTC-made Nexus tablet further reinstated that fact.
However, the lack of leaks and rumors surrounding a new Nexus handset led many to believe that Google would only be releasing a new Nexus tablet this year. But it looks like Google is indeed working on a new Nexus handset with none other than Motorola itself.
According to the information received by the folks over at Android Police, Motorola and Google are working on a device with the codename Shamu, which matches up perfectly with Google’s convention of codenaming its Nexus devices on sea creatures. The only other information available about the device is that it would come with a gigantic 5.9-inch screen and a fingerprint sensor.
Google and Motorola are, apparently, also working on bringing the phone to all the major carriers in the United States. The launch date of Shamu is pegged sometime in November, which is usually when Google puts up its new Nexus handsets for sale.
If Shamu is indeed a Nexus handset that is slated to be released towards the end of this year, expect more details and leak about it to surface over the next few weeks and months.
