Google today released an update for Google Fit that greatly enhances the fitness tracking capabilities of the app by adding the ability to detect your cardio and strength training activities.

In conjunction with your Android Wear running smartwatch, Google Fit will now be able to detect and count the sit-ups, push-ups, and squat you do. You can use your smartwatch to setup a daily challenge and then track it regularly. Additionally, for your runs, Fit will now display real-time information like your speed, distance covered, calories burned and more to motivate you more.

Lastly, to help you make healthy eating choices, Fit will now integrate with apps like MyFitnessPal, Fatsecret, Lifesum, and Loseit. It will also be able to keep track of your sleep using apps like Sleep as Android or through wearables like Xiaomi Mi Band, Mi Band 1S, Sony Smartband 2, and the Basis Peak.

The update to the Google Fit app is already live on the Google Play Store, while integration with apps like MyFitnessPal and Lifesum will go live over the next few days.
