Last year, Cyanogen Inc. broke all their ties with OnePlus and partnered with Yu, a subsidiary of Micromax — one of India’s leading smartphone brand.

Since then, Yu has released quite a few phones and all of them ran Cyanogen OS out of the box. However, recently Yu silently updated the listing of the Yu Yuphoria to reveal that the handset no longer runs on Cyanogen OS. Instead, it is now powered by stock Android 5.0 Lollipop. This led many to believe that the relationship between Cyanogen Inc. and Micromax had gone sour, just like it had gone with OnePlus.

Now, in an email to Android Police, Cyanogen Inc. has put the rumors to rest and revealed that they are still very much working with Yu.

We have a great partnership with YU, and happy to announce that Cyanogen OS 12.1 will be powering YU’s upcoming flagship – Yutopia. We’ll also be rolling out the latest 12.1 update to Yureka / Yureka Plus very soon. It doesn’t always makes sense for us to support every device in a partner’s portfolio, and there are one-off model variations. We want to put the unfounded rumors to rest.

Considering that YU Yutopia, the company’s upcoming flagship handset powered by a Snapdragon 810 chipset, will still run Cyanogen OS, it is unlikely that the relationship between the two companies have gone sour.

There can be many reasons behind this move from Cyanogen and Yu, including the companies experimenting with a stock Android budget smartphone or maybe they realized that most Yuphoria buyers did not care about the software the handset ran.
