Last night, BlackBerry finally rolled out the BBM app for Android and iPhone on the respective devices. To avoid its servers from crashing, the company made a virtual line-up system.

Now, eight hours later, the BlackBerry team says that their app has been downloaded by more than 5 million users already. However, most users who have downloaded the app have been welcomed by a frustrating “Temporary server error” and huge virtual queues.

Hopefully, BlackBerry will be able to get their act together and successfully rollout BBM for Android and iOS users after so many hiccups.

On a personal note, BlackBerry has done a very poor job with the BBM app for Android. The app looks like a direct port of its BB10 counterpart, including a huge back button being present on the screen even though Android devices have a dedicated back button. On Android devices with a virtual navigation bar like the Nexus series, a menu button reminiscent of the Gingerbread era will also show up, which has absolutely zero use.

Also, BBM only allows you to be signed in from one app on any device at a given time. It will automatically sign you out from any other device, once you sign into a new device. As an owner of multiple Android devices, this is a major bummer for me.
