There’s no Nougat to be had this week for your Android device, but Shield Tablet users are getting some important patches that should improve their overall use and gaming experience.

There’s also a strange case of missing Android dashboard numbers and hints the Galaxy S7 Edge may be on track for Nougat.

Each week, we round up all the major software updates to hit the Android ecosystem, including phones and tablets on U.S. carriers, unlocked phones, smartwatches, and Android TV devices. Making sure your device is running the latest available software is a good housekeeping practice, ensuring you have the latest features with fewer bugs and security holes.

Shield Tablet K1: Several important bug fixes are ready for your tablet. There’s a patch for Vulkan, a key technology for the future of mobile gaming. Nvidia says there’s also a fix for a boot loop issue when SD cards are near their storage limit, and several other bug and security patches.

Shield Tablet: It’s the same set of updates for the Shield Tablet, which should result in an a smoother experience with gaming and everyday use.

Android Developers Dashboard

Monthly update: Typically we see a monthly update from the Android Developers site that tells us how much usage each version of Android sees. In the September report, Marshmallow was on 18.7 percent of devices, with Nougat yet to make an entry.

We’ve reached out to Google inquiring as to why there was no October update, and we’ll be sure to update you if we hear back.

Galaxy S7 Edge: There’s a Nougat test ongoing in the U.K., which gives us hope that the update won’t be too far off into the future. It’s available through a Galaxy beta program that’s only available for those across the pond. However, after a long period of silence (the company was pretty busy putting out fires, after all) this is the first tangible evidence of Nougat coming soon.
