Earlier today, Google unveiled Pixel and Pixel XL, its first in-house developed smartphones. Running Android 7.1 Nougat, Pixel and Pixel XL come with many new features including Google Assistant. With the devices already going on pre-order, there is only one question in the mind of every current Nexus owner: when will the Android 7.1 update come for my device?

Google has confirmed to Android Police that it will be releasing a developer preview build of Android 7.1 Nougat before the end of 2017 for its Nexus devices and the Pixel C. While the Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X will get a developer preview build for sure, it is unclear if the Nexus 9 or Nexus 6 will also get the update since they have reached the end of their two-year update cycle. With a developer preview build being released this year, the final stable version of Android 7.1 is unlikely to drop before the end of Q1 next year.

It is also unclear what all new features that Google has introduced in Android 7.1 will be making its way to existing Nexus devices. The new 24×7 Live Support tab in the Settings pane is definitely not going to be available to them along with the new Pixel launcher and navigation bar design. The new Night Light (a.k.a blue light filter) option, however, will be coming to older Nexus devices.
