Amazon today announced that it will be offering selected Android smartphones at up to 50% off their full retail price. Right now, the company is only offering two phones under this offer: the BLU R1 HD and the Moto G4.

The BLU R1 HD will be available for only $49.99 after a $50 discount, while the Moto G4 after a $50 discount will be available for $149.99 to Amazon Prime members. The unlocked smartphones will work on AT&T and T-Mobile’s network in the United States. There is a catch here though: Amazon will be offering “personalised offers and ads, including deals and product recommendations” on the phone’s lock screen on behalf of the discount that it is giving to its Prime customers.  While the company does not mention it in its press releases, these devices are also going to be pre-loaded with Amazon apps (read bloatware).

If you don’t mind seeing lock screen ads on your phone every once in a while, this is probably a great way to get a cheap mid-range Android device at at even great price. For $49.99, the BLU R1 offers plenty of bang for the money. It sports a 5-inch 720p display, a quad-core 1.3GHz processor, a metal chassis, 1GB RAM, 8GB internal storage, microSD card slot, LTE support, and an 8MP rear shooter. The handset is also available in 2GB RAM/16GB storage variant, though it is priced higher.

As for the Moto G4, it sports a 5.5-inch 1080p display, a metallic chassis, an octa-core Snapdragon 617 chipset, 2GB RAM, 16GB storage, microSD card slot, and a 3000mAh battery. The handset also packs a 13MP rear shooter and a 5MP selfie shooter.

Both phones can be pre-ordered on Amazon from today, with the devices being available from July 12th. If you are an Amazon Prime member and are interested in knowing more about Prime Exclusive Phones from Amazon, make sure to head over to this link.
