Google announced Monday its acquisition of Timeful, an iOS time management app that helps you carve out time in your schedule for new goals and tasks.
For example, if you want to start running three times per week or need to set aside some space for an ongoing project, the app will suggest when you could squeeze such activities in. It also attempts to learn your habits by analyzing your current schedule.
Google says that it’s going to put the artificial intelligence tools to work in Google Calendar, Gmail, and other Google Apps. While Timeful says its iOS app isn’t going away yet, there’s already a link to download your data, usually the first step when closing up shop.
The impact on you: Google is going to use Timeful as another way to make its own services anticipate your needs and streamline the persistent flow of tasks and notifications. The plans for Timeful sound similar to what it has done with Google Now, which takes events from your Gmail and automatically adds them to your stream of content, serving up cards for travel and sports. We expect Timeful to go away soon and Google to work on making its core services even smarter.
