ZTE, a Chinese smartphone brand, today unveiled its new flagship handset that it has designed in conjunction with BMW’s Designworks team — the Axon 7. Packing a premium design and top notch internals, the Axon 7 will compete with the likes of the Galaxy S7 and HTC 10 at a price point far lower than them. 

The unibody metal design of the handset houses stereo speakers on the front and a fingerprint scanner on the rear. The front also houses a 5.5-inch Quad HD Super AMOLED display.

Inside the Axon 7 sits a Snapdragon 820 chipset clocked at 2.15GHz and an Adreno 530 GPU. ZTE will be offering the Axon 7 in two different storage and RAM configurations: 64GB/4GB RAM and 128GB/6GB RAM. This makes the handset among the very few in the  market — and the first in the United States — to feature a staggering 6GB of RAM.

Other notable features of the Axon 7 include Force Touch, a fingerprint scanner on the rear, a dedicated Hi-Fi audio DAC and stereo amplifier, USB Type-C port, and a 3250mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0 support. The rear of the phone houses a 20MP shooter with an F/1.8 aperture and OIS, while the front houses an 8MP selfie shooter.

The 7.9mm thin handset will launch in China and the United States for now. It will retail for $450 in the United States and will be available across major retailers like Amazon, Best Buy, eBay, Newegg, as well as ZTE’s own web store. The handset will work with AT&T’s and T-Mobile’s network out of the box, with support for Sprint’s and Verizon’s network a possibility in the future. Impressively, ZTE is offering a 2-year warranty with the Axon 7.

The Axon 7 is also the first Daydream compatible handset to be launched by any Android OEM. To go along with the handset, ZTE also launched a VR headset for it.
