Xiaomi Redmi 1S

On July 15, the Redmi 1S from Xiaomi was officially unveiled. More than a month later, it was announced that, following the success of the company’s Mi 3 handset, they would be releasing the Redmi 1S in India as well. Now the company has managed to break even more records (probably) with a ridiculous number of devices being sold in a very, very short period of time.

To say that Xiaomi has had another successful smartphone launch in India would be an understatement. According to Hugo Barra, Vice President of International for Xiaomi, the Redmi 1S managed to sell 40,000 units in just 4.2 seconds. For what it’s worth, this is the first time the device has gone on sale in the region, and the price tag of Rs. 5,999 (or $98) is borderline ridiculous for the device in question. Wit ha 4.7-inch 720p HD display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor, 8GB of built-in storage, an 8-megapixel camera, and a 1.6MP front-facing shooter, it’s certainly a sustainable mid-range handset with a low-end price tag.
