At this point of time, it is all but known that Google will be releasing Android 4.3, the new Nexus 7 and perhaps, the Moto X at its event on July 24th. With an Android 4.3 ROM leaking for the Nexus 4, there really is not much left to know about what all new features the next version of Jelly Bean will bring.
While, on the surface Android 4.3 does not seem to bring much changes, there are a lot of changes under-the-hood for more butter and improved performance. I managed to compile a list of all the changes that Android 4.3 Jelly Bean brings from various users who flashed the ROM on their device, and other developers.
What’s new in Android 4.3 -:
- T9 Dialler – Finally! The option is disabled by default, but can be enabled from the Dialer settings.
- The Camera app does not rotate completely like in Android 4.2. Instead, only the icons rotate.
- New camera app with the ability to take pics using the Volume key
HDR mode for front-facing camera- The status bar clock is now hidden on the lock screen
- Bluetooth 4.0 LE support for Nexus 4
- AVCRP 1.3 support
- Many new Developer options
- New system apps like Google Keep, Hangouts
- New radio for arguably better battery life, better mobile data and Wi-Fi performance
- Smoother animations
- Improved touch screen sensitivity for Nexus 4
- Ability to scan for Wi-Fi location networks, even when Wi-Fi is switched off
- Many tweaks and improvements to the Dalvik VM. This means more butter for apps
- Hidden notification history
- Updated version of Google Keep and Play Store
- GPU rendering has also been greatly improved. This will help make apps smoother and faster, while saving battery
- OpenGL 3.0 support has been added to Nexus 4
- Newer graphics driver for Nexus 4 greatly improves performance in benchmarks
- Restricted profiles for tablets
Sadly, on the Nexus 4, the delayed notification bug while on Wi-Fi has still not been fixed. I have been unable to find any other changes in Android 4.3 for now. If I come across any, I will update this post.
The Google Play edition Galaxy S4 and the HTC One should also receive the Android 4.3 update around the same time as the Nexus 4.
