The two flagship phones that Sony announced at the beginning of this year, the Xperia Z and ZL, shipped with Android 4.1, and were upgraded to Android 4.2 last month. Unfortunately, that update was pretty buggy. Luckily, another update is currently being pushed out that fixes most of the problems. Here’s the full change log, courtesy of GSM Arena.

  • Smoother Boot animation
  • Efficient RAM management
  • Home launcher is smoother, no more lag
  • Update Center has new UI
  • 3G Signal strength improved
  • Improved touch response
  • Faster sleep and wake
  • Low-light image quality improved
  • Changes in car mode app
  • High resolution image snapping while recording a non-HDR video
  • No screen flickering
  • No unusual battery reading bug

And while we’re on the topic of Sony devices, the Xperia ZR, which can best be thought of as a budget version of the Z that comes with a smaller 720p screen, is also getting updated to Android 4.2 today. Previously it was on Android 4.1, so all the neat things that come in 4.2, like pull down toggles, have been added.

So what about Android 4.3? Sony actually published a list of devices that will get Android 4.3 a few weeks ago. The full list: Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia ZR, Xperia Tablet Z, Xperia SP and Xperia Z Ultra.

All you Sony fans out there, do let us know what you think of the new bits.
