After leaking in pictures quite a few time, Sony has gone ahead and unveiled the Xperia Z1 Compact at its press conference in CES 2014. The Z1 Compact offers consumers all the features that the Xperia Z1 packs in a much smaller device.

The Z1 Compact features the exact same specs as the Z1 including a 2.2GHz Snapdragon S800 processor, an Adreno 330 GPU, 2GB of RAM, LTE, and a 2300mAh non-removable battery. The only differences between the two devices are that the Z1 Compact is a millimeter thicker and packs in a small but much improved 720p 4.3-inch IPS display.

The much highlighted 1/2.3-inch 20.7MP camera with an f/2.0 G Lens and Sony’s BIONZ image processing is also intact.

On the software side, the Z1 Compact disappointingly runs on Android 4.3 with Sony’s customized skin on top it. Sony, however, says that the handset will get the Android 4.4 KitKat update within a few weeks of being released.

The handset will go on sale sometime early next month and should hopefully cost less than the Xperia Z1. It will also come in multiple colors including red, yellow, white and black.
