Sony today announced its new flagship Xperia tablet at MWC — the Xperia Z4 Tablet. The tablet comes with a 10.1-inch 2K (2560 x 1600) resolution display inside an extremely slim (6.1mm) and light body, which is made up of mineral glass and stainless steel metal corners.
The Xperia Z4 is also the first tablet from Sony to do away with the flap on the microUSB port.
The tablet makes use of Sony’s popular OmniBalance design, and weighs in just 389/393 grams (Wi-Fi/LTE). Like all other Xperia devices from Sony, the Xperia Z4 Tablet is also IP68-certified making it dust and water-resistant. The 10.1-inch display on the tablet is further enhanced by Sony’s proprietary features like Triluminos and X-Realy Mobile Engine.
Under the hood, the Xperia Z4 Tablet comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor, 3GB RAM, 32GB of internal storage and a 6000mAh battery, which the company states is capable of up to 17 hours of video playback. The tablet also features an 8.1MP camera on the rear and a 5MP sensor on the front with a wide-angle lens. The tablet also features front-facing stereo speakers, unlike the iPad Air 2.
On the software side, the Xperia Z4 Tablet runs on Android 5.0.2 Lollipop with Sony’s own UI on top of it. The tablet also comes with Sony’s popular audio technologies like high-Res Audio, DSEE HX, and LDAC. It also features PS4 Remote Play integration as already seen on the Xperia Z3 series of devices from the company.
The tablet will be available in Wi-Fi only and LTE flavors. Sony did not reveal any details about the price of the tablet, but did mention that it will be making its way to retail stores across major regions in the world from June.
The company also announced a bunch of accessories to go with the announcement of the tablet, including a Bluetooth keyboard, a smart cover and a Bluetooth speaker.
