Sony has never really shied away from launching special variants of its handsets for Japan — its home market. Now, if a report from CnBeta is to be believed, Sony is preparing to launch a Premium variant of the Xperia Z5 Compact in the country.

The Xperia Z5 Compact Premium will reportedly be available through Japanese carrier NTT DoCoMo in the country, and feature a 4.6-inch 1080p display. That’s not it though; the handset will also come with a bigger 2900mAh battery and 4GB of RAM.

Other specs of the handset will remain the same as its ‘normal’ sibling, which includes a Snapdragon 810 processor, a new 23MP rear camera, and a 5MP front-facing shooter. If the leaked promotional material is anything to go by, the handset will come with a Hastune system UI theme and a Hatsune logo at the back. If these specs do end up being true, Sony sure is launching a miniature powerhouse of a smartphone in the country.

It is possible that Sony and NTT DoCoMo will only sell limited units of the Xperia Z5 Compact Premium. Until there is an official announcement from either of the companies about this handset though, all we can do is speculate about its availability and pricing.

The Xperia Z3+/Xperia Z4 were panned by reviewers for hardly offering any meaningful improvements over its predecessors, but with its new Xperia Z5 lineup, Sony seems to have gone out with all its guns blazing in the fiercely competitive smartphone market.
