It is all but known that LG will be showing off its Android Wear powered G Watch at Google I/O next week and also be giving it away to all the attendees. Now, it looks like Samsung is all set to join the bandwagon as well by unveiling its own Android Wear powered smartwatch at Google’s conference, if sources from CNET are to be believed.
Apparently, Samsung has two working prototypes of its smartwatch — one powered by its own in-house Exynos chip and the second one powered by a Qualcomm chip. It is not yet clear which version Samsung will be showing off at the I/O and will ultimately go on sale. Samsung may also give away its smartwatch to all the I/O attendees like LG but this piece of information is not yet fully confirmed.
Samsung has already unveiled three wearable devices this year — Gear 2, Gear 2 neo and Fit — but all of them were powered by its own Tizen OS. In fact, the company even went ahead and updated the original Galaxy Gear running Android to Tizen via a software update. However, none of Samsung wearable devices have met with success and it will be interesting to see how the company’s first Android Wear smartwatch stacks up against its own Gear series of smartwatches.
