Earlier this year, Samsung managed to reserve the first batch of Snapdragon 835 shipments from Qualcomm for the Galaxy S8. Due to this, other OEMs were forced to delay the launch of their flagship handsets or launch it with the older Snapdragon 821 chipset. 

Now, Samsung has done something similar with the Snapdragon 845 chip. The company has entered into an agreement with Qualcomm where it would be getting exclusive access to the first batch of Snapdragon 845 chips.

This means that Samsung will once again be the first OEM to launch a flagship handset featuring Qualcomm’s next-generation Snapdragon chip next year. The Snapdragon 835 chip also faced some yield issues which led to the Galaxy S8 launch being delayed to late March. Not to forget, Samsung’s rigorous eight-point safety check also contributed to the handset’s delay/

For the Snapdragon 845 though, it is too early to comment if Qualcomm is facing any yield issues with it or not.

Nonetheless, like with previous years, Samsung will only be using the Snapdragon 845 chip inside the Galaxy S9 for the variants sold in China and the US. In other areas of the world, the Galaxy S9 will make use of Samsung’s own Exynos 8900 chip.
