Samsung pushes out first OTA update to the GS4, it’s 54 MB worth of stability improvements

Late last month, when the embargo lifted on Samsung Galaxy S4 reviews, I found myself scratching my head when numerous publications said that the gallery application was prone to crashing. Some people even said that the device lags terribly until you turn off all those super fancy and highly unnecessary gestures that Samsung developed.

Looks like Samsung is aiming to fix some of these issues, in India at least. Owners of the GT-i9500, meaning the Exynos 5 Octa version of the GS4, should check their device for software updates. There’s a 54 MB patch waiting for you that promises “improved stability”, but that’s all that appears in the changelog.

Two key questions: When will this update hit other markets? Knowing Samsung, the answer is quite soon. Will the same kind of update be pushing out to Qualcomm powered GS4 units? This one I’m less sure about. I imagine the answer is a definite yes considering that the Qualcomm GS4 is out shipping the Exynos GS4, but I’m not going to pretend I understand Samsung’s logic.

Update: Twitter user @caschy tells me that his German GS4 got a 78 MB OTA update last week. This is the first I’ve heard of such an update.

Update: More information about this German GS4 update on All About Samsung. They say it comes with a new camera firmware and that the device feels more stable.
