Brazil’s National Telecommunications Agency (ANATEL) has accidentally revealed the battery capacity of Samsung’s upcoming flagships: the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+. While previous rumors indicated the handsets would come with bigger batteries than their predecessors, that does not seem to be the case.

As per the document, the Galaxy S9 will come with a 3,000mAh battery while the Galaxy S9 Plus will feature a slightly bigger 3,500mAh battery. This means that the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ would come with the same battery capacity as the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+.

Our Take

This does not mean that the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ will not offer better battery life than their predecessors though. The handsets will come with a more power efficient Snapdragon 845 and Exynos 9810 chipset. Despite being based on the 10nm fabrication process, the chips are expected to be up to 30 percent more efficient. Couple with the improvements in other key components of the device like the display and camera, the Galaxy S9 and S9+ can easily deliver improved battery life than the outgoing models.

Samsung is also reported to finally make the switch to Quick Charge 3.0 on its flagship devices this year which should be capable of charging the devices by up to 50 percent in around 30 minutes.

Samsung will be unveiling the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ at MWC 2018 in Barcelona next month. The handsets are expected to go on sale in key markets of the world from March.
