Smartphones with fingerprint readers embedded into the display are no longer a fictional endeavor, as Vivo has already shown off one of its own smartphones with the technology in place.

As such, it is likely that we will see even more smartphones following suit, especially as bezels get reduced and the idea of putting the fingerprint reader on the back isn’t a consideration for some companies. Samsung is one of the manufacturers that has been rumored to include the technology in its flagship smartphones, but has also seen recent rumors suggesting the company has given up on the idea.

Now we have yet another rumor saying that not only has Samsung not given up on the idea of an in-display fingerprint reader, but, as of right now, has “three or four options” when it comes to introducing the feature in an upcoming smartphone. Right now, according to The Korea Herald, Samsung is “seriously considering” these options to include in its next flagship smartphone, which would be the Galaxy Note 9, expected to debut later this year.

Of course, anything could change, and nothing is official by any means. The unnamed sources speaking to the publication state that Samsung is expected to make a final decision on the future of an in-display fingerprint reader in its flagship phones this month, so it’s certainly possible the company decides against it.

Still, Vivo made waves by introducing the option earlier this year, so it will be interesting to see if Samsung goes down that route, too.
