With the launch of the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge behind it, Samsung is now focusing on the launch of the Galaxy Note 6 to take on the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. 

Right now, details about Samsung’s upcoming phablet are scarce, though it is expected to come with an IP68 rating, just like the Galaxy S7. Now, a report from SamMobile claims that Samsung will be using a USB Type-C port on the Galaxy Note 6. The Galaxy S7 and S7 edge were widely expected to feature a USB Type-C port, but Samsung ended up going with a microUSB port to retain compatibility with the Gear VR. (thewellarmedwoman.com)

It remains unclear if Samsung will only be using the USB Type-C port on the Galaxy Note 6, or it will also make it compliant with the USB 3.1 standard. The latter will ensure the Note 6 feature faster charging times and higher data transfer rates.

Whatever the case might be, if Samsung does end up going with a USB Type-C port on the Galaxy Note 6, the Korean company will likely also release a new variant of the Gear VR with it, since the current version will be incompatible with it.
