Oppo’s new European website goes live, then proceeds to fall flat on its face

Chances are you’ve never heard of Oppo. They’re a Chinese company that specializes in high end audio/video equipment, but they also sell mobile phones. I’ve seen several of their handsets while I was touring South East Asia earlier this year, but I didn’t get to see their new one, the Find 5, which is a shame. The Find 5 has a 5 inch 1080p display, quadcore Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro, 2 GB of RAM, and a 13 megapixel camera. In other words, it’s a bonafide flagship smartphone.

What makes it really special is the price. It’s super cheap, relatively speaking, but we all know that doesn’t matter if you can’t buy the phone in your country, right? And here’s where Oppo is smart. They started selling the Find 5 in the U.S. late last year, unsubsidized for $499. And today, their European store opened, but it went down ridiculously quick.

How much are they charging for the Find 5 in the EU? Just 399 EUR for the 16 GB model. You can’t even buy a Galaxy S3 for that low of a price here in Finland! What’s even crazier is that the 32 GB version is just an extra 30 EUR. You have to buy the 32 GB model if you want the phone in black.

I’m tempted to buy this thing just to have a toy to play with, Oppo is known for issuing OTA updates to their devices every two weeks, but unfortunately I’m not the type of person who just throws around money like that. If you are however, then you might want to give the Find 5 a good look, assuming their site comes back up today or this week.
