OnePlus today released the community build of OxygenOS 3.5 for the OnePlus 3. The latest build of OS is based on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow but comes with several new features, system apps, and UI improvements.

Being a community build, OxygenOS 3.5 will not be rolled out to all OnePlus 3 users out there. Instead, the update will have to be manually installed on the phone by interested users. A quick changelog of the update is as follows:

  • Several UI improvements
  • New and improved OnePlus apps, including clock, weather and file manager
  • Improved camera software
  • More robust settings and customization features

And a list of issues with the build are as follows:

  • Android Pay is not currently supported
  • Only English is currently supported in several OnePlus apps
  • Some performance issues
  • Some UI issues when using custom themes
  • System UI tuner is unstable (do not use); using the system UI tuner could cause serious issues that can only be resolved via factory reset
  • You will need to re-register your fingerprints if you have fingerprint authentication enabled

OnePlus notes that the biggest changes in OxygenOS 3.5 have taken behind the scenes. The team behind the OS has streamlined their whole platform that will allow them to increase the speed and frequency of their updates in the future.

While installing the community build on your OnePlus 3 will not wipe the phone’s internal storage in anyway, it is still recommended that you create a backup of all your important data. Once you install the community build, you will also receive future community builds over OTA.

OnePlus has been severely criticized for their slow software update rollout times, but it looks like with the OnePlus 3, the company is trying to turn a new leaf. Since the release of the handset, OnePlus has rolled out numerous software updates for the device and with all the back end changes being introduced with OxygenOS 3.5, it looks like things are only going to improve further.
