OnePlus today announced the final name of their upcoming ROM that will be replacing CyanogenMod 11S in the Indian variant of the device — OxygenOS.

While the OnePlus team did not reveal much details about the ROM in their announcement today, they did say that it is “open, customizable, and free of bloat and unnecessary features.” The OnePlus team promises to provide more details about OxygenOS on February 12th.

In China, OnePlus will be calling their ROM H2 OS or HydrogenOS. It is unclear if OxygenOS and HydrogenOS are the same ROMs or if they both will offer a different user experience.

For the unknown, OnePlus and Cyanogen Inc. have been involved in an ugly legal battle over the One shipping in India with CyanogenMod’s OS. This is because Cyanogen Inc. gave the exclusive right to ship their OS in India to Micromax and the latter has sued OnePlus over this. Thanks to the ugly spat, Cyanogen Inc. will not be providing any kind of software support to the One sold in India.

This forced OnePlus to move forward the development of its own ROM, which is based on Android 5.0 Lollipop and will be offering an experience that is closed to stock Android. OnePlus released an early alpha version of their ROM earlier this month, which was essentially a stock build of Android 5.0 Lollipop with only a few device specific tweaks.
