Not even five months after it was first released, the OnePlus 5T is no longer available for sale in the United States. OnePlus has depleted its stock of the OnePlus 5T for North America and does not expect to replenish it either. The company says that the stock outage is due to stronger-than-expected demand.

OnePlus’ head of global marketing and general manager for North America, Kyle Kiang, says that the company cannot divert stocks meant for other parts of the world to the U.S. as the process of changing the AC adapters in the box would be too cumbersome.

OnePlus has a unique approach to its production. Depending on the demand and hype, the company decides to build a set number of smartphones for each market. And once the units are sold out, the company stops selling its smartphone in that region. The move seems to have worked for OnePlus so far as demand for its handsets has only increased over the last couple of years. In North America, particularly, OnePlus has seen a growth of around 39 percent up until last year and the region now accounts for about 25 percent of its online sales.

This means that if you want to buy a OnePlus smartphone in the U.S., you will have to wait until. the company gets around to launching its next flagship: the OnePlus 6. OnePlus usually unveils its new flagship smartphone around late Q2, though an early unveiling could be a possibility this time around. Until then, if you desperately want a OnePlus 5T in the US, you should be able to find them on eBay or Swappa, though you will have to pay a slight premium.
