Nokia today launched its three new Android smartphones here in Barcelona: the Nokia 3, Nokia 5, and Nokia 6. While the Nokia 6 was already unveiled by HMD Global — the company that purchased the rights to sell phones under Nokia branding, the other two phones are brand new.
As their naming scheme suggests, the Nokia 6 is the most powerful and premium of all the three handsets announced today.
Nokia 6
The 6 features a premium unibody design that is made from a solid block of series 6000 aluminium. The phone also goes through two different anodising process that takes over 10 hours to complete, with five different polishing levels being added to the mix.
Despite its premium build quality, the Nokia 6 packs in modest internals which includes a Snapdragon 430 chipset, 4GB RAM, 64GB storage, microSD card slot, and stereo speakers. It also packs in a fingerprint sensor and a 3000mAh battery with quick charging thrown in. The 16MP shooter at the rear and the 8MP shooter at the front feature a f/2.0 aperture lens with “exclusive Camera UI” featuring automatic scene detection. On the software front, the Nokia 6 runs on Android 7.0 Nougat.
The Nokia 6 has already been available in China since January where it has been selling like hot cakes. To celebrate the worldwide availability of the Nokia 6, HMD Global also announced the launch of a limited edition Nokia 6 Arte edition that features a high-gloss piano finish, 4GB RAM, and 64GB of storage. The Nokia 6 will be available for 229€, while the Nokia 6 Arte Special edition will retail for 299€.
Nokia 5
Similar in design to the Nokia 6, the Nokia 5 comes with a smaller 5.2-inch 720p display, 2GB RAM, and a 12MP shooter. Otherwise, the phone packs similar specifications as the Nokia 6. The Nokia 5 will be available in four different colors: blue, black, silver, and red. The handset will retail for 189€.
Nokia 3
The cheapest of the three handsets unveiled today, the Nokia 3 packs in a tiny 5-inch 720p display. It features an 8MP wide angle shooter at the rear and at the front. The budget handset will cost 139€. It features a similar design quality as the Nokia 6 and Nokia 5, but only comes with a metallic chassis with the rear being made of hard plastic. The handset also lacks a fingerprint scanner.
Lastly, the Nokia 3 is the only handset to be announced today that comes with a quad-core MediaTek processor.
All the three handsets will be available starting from Q2. They all run on a pure version of Android Nougat, and Nokia/HMD Global promises quick and regular Android and security patch updates. They will also feature unlimited storage space on Google Photos and Google Assistant. Lastly, all of them come with hybrid dual-SIM/microSD slots.
