Next Nexus 10 leaks, and it’s not a Samsung

Google’s Nexus phone and Nexus 7 tablet got refreshed this year, but what about the larger 10.0 inch Nexus? According to a set of images that have leaked during the weekend, we might see a new stock Android jumbo tablet on the 22nd of November; aka this coming Friday. Instead of being made by Samsung, like the first generation model, this updated model will be made by LG. It’ll sport the same high resolution panel, though the internals have received a dramatic upgrade. Goodbye dual core ARM Cortex A15, hello quad core Snapdragon 800. RAM also gets a bump up to 3 GB from 2 GB in last year’s Nexus 10.

Assuming this device lands at the same $399 price tag as the first Nexus 10, should you buy it? I’m going to go out on a limb here and say no. Again, assuming that $399 price tag is true, that’s money better spent on a 3G enabled Nexus 7, which is just $349. With the cash left over, buy yourself some applications and support the Android ecosystem.

Why am I not recommending the Nexus 10? Because Android is awesome, for the most part, but the tablet situation is a bit different. Applications simply aren’t optimized, and while some strides have been made in order to change that, you’re still far better off seeing phone apps blown up for 7.0 inch screens than seeing phone apps blown up for 10.0 inch screens.

Here’s hoping more Android developers start taking tablets seriously.
