Muzei, one of the best wallpaper apps for Android, today received a major update adding support for plenty of new features and under the hood improvements. The last update for Muzei was released back in November 2015 and in the time since then, the Googlers behind the app have worked on modernising its code base and adding new features to it.

For Android Nougat users, Muzei now supports Direct Boot that allows it to run even before you unlock the device after a reboot. This ensures that your wallpaper is already set immediately after a reboot. Additionally, taking advantage of the new quick settings tile API, Muzei now offers a ‘Next Artwork’ tile that lets one quickly change the artwork (a.k.a wallpaper) with a simple tap. There is now also an Artwork Info option available for Android 7.1 running devices through the App Shortcuts menu.

The new APIs introduced by Google in Android Wear 2.0 makes it possible to use artwork and background image from Muzei with other watch faces. Other changes to the app include using the DocumentsProvider framework to provide easy access to the recently used artworks and support for Marshmallow’s runtime permission.

Aside from all the features mentioned above, the developers have also worked on improving the reliability of loading new wallpapers and of the app itself. You can find a detailed explanation of all the new changes in Muzei 2.3 over here.
