Motorola teases the Moto E, prepares to bid goodbye to the flip phone

In a few hours, Motorola will go live and unleash its second attempt to woo consumers looking for a premium smartphone experience at a budget price in the form of the Moto E. It’s a device many have been looking forward to, and to build up the hype, the ex-Google company has teased the Moto E on Twitter with a picture of its UI and the hashtag #GoodbyeFlipPhone.

That hashtag is clearly a pointer at the fact that Motorola is hoping to entice feature phone users (especially in emerging markets) to make the Moto E their first smartphone, a smartphone that could be sold for as low as $100 while offering similar hardware as more costlier options. The screenshot shared by Motorola matches that of the UI seen in the leaked photos of the phone, and the company has also teased that the Moto E could be resistant to dirt, though it’s unlikely that it will feature proper water and dust-resistance.

The specs of the Moto E are expected to include a 4.3-inch screen (protected by Gorilla Glass), 1.2GHz dual-core Snapdragon processor, 1GB of RAM, a 5-megapixel camera, 4GB of expandable memory, dual SIM slots, a 1,980 mAh battery, and a near-stock version of Android 4.4 KitKat. It’s all based on rumors and leaks, but it won’t be long before we get all the official details from the horse’s mouth.
