Moto X Camera App Tutorial Nexus 4

Today we went hands on with the new Moto X Camera app, as detailed by the fine folks over at XDA. Although the app is designated for a yet to be announced device — the Moto X — it runs fairly well on other devices like the Nexus 4. With that in mind, we’ve taken the Moto X Camera APK and installed it on our Nexus 4 in order to showcase how it works on video. Have a look inside as we walk through the apps working features.

As you can see, many of the app’s features work fine on the Nexus 4. The introductory tutorial, taking single shots, burst mode shots, and more, all work fine on the presumably lesser hardware of the Nexus 4. You’ll also be happy to find that the front facing camera toggle, and video recording play nice as well.

Where it works, the Moto X Camera app is a fast and responsive way to shoot photos and videos on supported devices. Granted, not all of the features built into the app are working at this time. Panorama mode crashes the app, the gestures to launch the app from anywhere don’t work, and HDR mode and slow motion are both disabled. Still, I think it’s worth playing around with so as to get a glimpse of what the future might be like with the highly anticipated Moto X hardware.

If you want to take the Moto X Camera app for a spin yourself, then you can download the Moto X Camera APK directly from your device, and install it using a file manager; I used OI file manager, which is free from Google Play. Be sure to have the Settings > Security > Unknown sources option checked before attempting to install the APK.

Have you been able to take the Moto X Camera app for a go? If so, please share your thoughts in the comments below.
