A couple of weeks ago, Paul OBrien, the founder of MoDaCo and a popular developer in the Android community teased about MoDaCo.SWITCH for the HTC One. While he did not provide much information back then, it was inferred that this mod would allow users to run Sense or stock Android on their One at the flip of a switch.

Today, he has posted a video of MoDaCo.SWITCH in action on his HTC One, and the feature does look incredible. Basically, SWITCH will allow HTC One users to switch between the stock Android or Sense based ROM via an app and a simple reboot. The best part is that all the user data including the installed apps and their state remains the same across both the ROMs, which truly makes SWITCH useful and unique.

SWITCH is going to be modular in nature so developers can easily incorporate it into their existing ROMs. At the moment, Paul is still testing SWITCH before he makes it public. Since SWITCH will use two different /system partitions for the AOSP and the Sense ROM, users will end up losing some free space but that really should not be an issue for the functionality that one ends up gaining. The feature won’t be limited to AOSP and Sense based ROMs, and down the line, developers can incorporate other ROMs like MIUI as well.

SWITCH’s key advantage is that it would allow for seamless transition between the Sense and GPe ROM using a simple app and reboot, compared to the dual-boot kernels and options available for some Android devices.
