Xiaomi today unveiled the Mi Mix 3 — the third iteration of the phone which kickstarted the bezel-less trend. The Mi Mix 3 does not adopt the ugly notch front and also fixes the weird front camera placement.
Similar to the Vivo Nex and the Oppo Find X, the Mi Mix 3 comes with a sliding mechanism which hides the front and rear camera. Unlike the Vivo and Oppo though, the Mi Mix 3 does not feature a motorized slider. Instead, just like sliding phones of the decade gone by, the Mi Mix 3 comes with a manual slider.
At the front, the Mi Mix 3 houses a 6.4-inch FHD+ OLED panel — a first for the series. Xiaomi has managed to reduce the bottom chin on the Mi Mix 3 by nearly 4.5mm to increase its body-to-screen ratio to 93.4 percent.
As for internals, the Mi Mix 3 comes with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 chipset, up to 10GB RAM, 128/256GB storage, wireless charging, dual-SIM connectivity, 3850mAh battery with fast charging, USB-C connectivity, and more. There’s no in-display fingerprint sensor here, with Xiaomi opting to use the traditional capacitive fingerprint sensor located at the rear of the Mix 3.

As for cameras, the Mi Mix 3 houses a dual-camera setup at the front and rear. The primary 12MP shooter uses a Sony IMX363 sensor with a f/1.8 aperture, OIS, and 1.4um pixel size. This is paired with a secondary 12MP Samsung telephoto sensor offering 2x optical zoom. At the front, there’s a 24MP selfie camera with Super Pixel low-light tech and a secondary 2MP DoG camera to aid the camera in capturing Portrait selfies. Other camera features include 4K video recording, 960fps slow-mo video recording,
Xiaomi says the Mi Mix 3 scored 108 points in DxOMark camera benchmark and 93 points in video.
Xiaomi will launch a special 5G version of the Mi Mix 3 in Europe in Q1, 2019. The device will also ship with a 10W wireless charger in the box.
The Mi Mix 3 will be available in Onyx Black, Jade Green, and Sapphire Blue colors. Prices for the device start from 3299 yuan for the 6GB RAM/128GB variant and goes all the way up to 3999 yuan for the 8GB RAM and 256GB variant. There’s also a special ‘The Palace Museum’ edition of the Mi Mix 3 that comes with 24K gold-coated bronze statue for 4999 yuan with 10GB RAM and 256GB storage. The Mi Mix 3 first goes on sale in China from November 1.
