Word only broke just recently that LG is working on a flagship successor to the G7, and now we already have some renders of the upcoming handset.

@OnLeaks and 91mobiles have the new renders, which are based on factory CAD data, and not official by any means. Still, it’s good to see what we might be dealing with ahead of a public announcement that is probably coming at this year’s Mobile World Congress event next month. Unfortunately, one of the more exciting elements of the upcoming smartphone isn’t included in the renders.

Let’s start with what we can see. There is a notch at the top of the display, and the handset itself looks a lot like the G7 before it. However, that notch does appear to include a pair o front-facing cameras, which should be a welcomed addition. The chin at the bottom of the display seems a bit smaller than this phone’s predecessor as well. There is a dual camera setup on the back, which is in the horizontal rather than the vertical.

It appears there’s a USB-C port for charging, and it looks like the G8 is going to have a 3.5mm headphone jack. There’s a fingerprint reader on the back as well, so while LG isn’t adopting a folding design, it looks like we’re not getting an in-display fingerprint reader, either. The display reportedly measures in at 6.1 inches and has a QHD+ resolution. It may even have a feature called “Sound on Display”, which will turn vibrations into a speaker right from the display. It will have a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor under the hood.

Now, what’s missing. These renders don’t include a secondary, “attachable” display, as early rumors have suggested the device will have. As mentioned above, LG won’t be launching a foldable phone in the G8, but it will apparently have a secondary screen that attaches to the phone similar to a standard case. It’s unfortunate we don’t get to see what that might look like in these renders, sine it sounds like that might be the biggest selling point for the handset when it does launch.
