After months of leaks, LG has unveiled its next flagship handset: the G7 ThinQ. The handset is based on the V30 from last year, but LG has improved it in every key aspect to ensure it remains competitive with smartphones released in 2018. But has LG reintroduced the IR blaster on the G7?

At one point in time, LG was the lone major Android OEM to offer an IR blaster on its flagship smartphone. However, the company soon joined the likes of Samsung and HTC and gave the handy sensor a miss from its devices. Sadly, the Korean company has continued that trend with the G7 as well as it lacks an IR blaster. This means that you won’t be able to use the LG G7 to control other electrical appliances around you.

This means that Huawei is the sole Android OEM in the market right now which offers an IR blaster on its flagship handsets. The company’s recently unveiled P20 and P20 Pro feature an IR blaster at the top which allows them to be used to control other devices that can be controlled using a remote.

It is a shame that the LG G7 does not feature an IR blaster as it would have at least allowed the company to appeal to a niche set of customers and win them over. Instead, it has now lost any potential customer who might have made a switch due to the inclusion of an IR blaster on the G7.
